The Bay Breeze Library
Welcome to the Library at Bay Breeze House! This off season I have been a busy bee making improvements and updates to the house. One of them being creating a common space to read a book, have a snack or listen to some tunes after a busy day at the beach or bay.
With a desire to keep as much of the original woodwork in this 1880’s built house, I kept the pocket doors in original condition and came up with a way to create a built-in look in front of the doors . First, I sound proofed and then further insulated to create a solid sound barrier between the rooms. It was said on YouTube that I couldn’t stack the doors, but as it turns out I ran them through my table saw taking off a quarter inch (top and bottom of door …but only on the 2nd level doors) and they aligned perfect! Some shellac primer and 4 coats of paint later, custom door handles… and my lovliest-shade-of-green built-in was completed. Lastly, I added some gold directional lights, remote control of course! I personally adore this space for my morning coffee and listening to evening jazz on the record player.
BONUS! My newly acquired family member (through marriage) and professor of art at Villanova, Nate, is going to create a painting for the large empty space behind the couch, …stay tuned as that will be epic!
Here are some pictures of the journey!
